Flute Cocktail

Flute Cocktail
fl_cocktail_viper Flute Cocktail Group

Flute Cocktail began as a conversation between retired Cincinnati Symphony flutist Chellie Doepke and freelance flutist Wendy Willis.  In 2006, Flute Cocktail emerged as a flute ensemble comprised of professional and amateur flutists dedicated to the art of good music and fun!

Flute Cocktail keeps their audiences entertained by wondering…”Hmmm… what antics are coming next?!”   They perform on the traditional flute, alto, bass flute and piccolo, but don’t be surprised if the occasional ocarina, penny whistle, kazoo, wine bottle, or pitted olive emerges as a flute!   Also, audience participation is mandatorily optional (okay, we’re all teachers and know “mandatorily” is NOT a real word!!!) but previous audiences have been asked to blow bubbles or perhaps answer Solar System trivia questions.

Recital Suggestions:

 “Let it…SNOW?!”

There is no better way to ring in the Christmas Season than with this recital.  Complete with videos of Christmas wonderlands (just to make our Florida folks appreciate they are listening to this concert and it’s 80 degrees outside!)  With a combination of traditional Christmas sacred melodies and fun holiday tunes, you’ll be sure to leave in the xmas spirit!

“For the Love of Music”  (Flute Cocktail and Lydia’s Song)

In the mood for “love”?!  Flute Cocktail joins “Lydia’s Song”, an a capella women’s vocal ensemble for a program of love songs, and songs we love! And you don’t want to miss the “Duet for 2 Cats”.  It’s just purrrrrrfect!  We’ll get your audience purring, but keep those claws at home!

Description: Flutes in Space

Come and join us as “Flute Cocktail” travels through the solar system.  Bass flute, alto, C flute and piccolo…we’ll land on Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and possibly be visited by some extra terrestrials.  No space suits necessary and oxygen will be provided.  Just in case “Mission Space” makes you a little queasy, we promise to hang out on earth for a while, too.  Performing a wide range of music from classical to contemporary, Flute Cocktail promises to deliver a smile and toe tapping experience whilst floating through zero gravity!

Flute Cocktail presents:  Flute Loops

Description: Flutes, flute, flutes.  The soprano, alto, bass flutes and the piccolo will take you on a musical journey.  From Renaissance to Contemporary, Classical to Broadway, baroque flutes, fifes, penny whistles, recorders…you’ll hear it all.  Flute Cocktail will give you a whole new perspective on flutes…and a couple of surprises as well!

 The History of the Flute

From the origin of the first flute to our modern silver tube, we’ll walk you through flute history.  Also, did you know a pitted olive is a flute?!  See…you’re going to learn a lot from this presentation!
